Senior Data Analyst – Vessel Tracking

Role Profile
The Senior Data Analyst – Vessel Tracking is an exciting position within the Lloyd’s List Intelligence Content team that will support our vessel tracking team for continuing the growth of our Automatic Identification System (AIS) network, as well as reviewing and integrating other vessel tracking data to increase the global coverage of our vessel tracking capabilities.
This position presents an exciting opportunity for a results-driven individual with a strong understanding of complex data structures and data management experience looking to develop their communication and project management skills. This role is integral to the growth of LLI’s global vessel tracking and analysis capability and will support the health and expansion of the LLI AIS network.
This role will suit a highly flexible, detail-orientated, and organised person who is fully committed to providing our customers with a world-leading vessel tracking service.
This role is a 12-month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave, reporting to the Head of Maritime Data.
The role is balanced working in either our London or Colchester offices.
Key Responsibilities
Work towards KPIs that track the health of the entire AIS network and measure performance of the AIS receivers in real time
Design documentation, report, dashboard and automated processes for efficient management of the AIS network
Proactively investigate AIS data by extracting the data to identify any possible performance issues and suggest improvement
Ensure that robust processes are in place for dealing with service disruptions to minimise downtime
Work closely within the Lloyd’s List Intelligence Data and Product team to analyse high volumes of incoming vessel tracking data across AIS, shipping lists and other sources
Collaborate closely within the Geospatial Analysts to ensure most up-to-date geospatial information is maintained
Work as part of a project team to build our analytics capabilities for addressing customer solutions as per the roadmap
Deliver analysis and project tasks to strict deadlines and milestones
Respond to internal and external client queries (AtA service) related to vessel tracking and our products to the high SLAs, and escalate queries as necessary
Compile and maintain clear methodology and training documents across the team’s areas of focus
Work with a good level of autonomy and have a problem-solving innovative attitude to all work
What we are looking for:
Essential
University degree at undergraduate (Bachelor) level or equivalent in suitable subject is required.
At least 5 years’ experience as a quantitative data analyst
At least 5 years’ experience in database management
At least 5 years’ experience in SQL
At least 5 years’ experience in Python
Proven experience in translating raw data and concepts into graphical reports and dashboards
Proficiency in written and spoken English language skills
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
Innovative and dynamic approach to problem-solving and process enhancements
Desirable
Previous experience in analyst peer share, technical knowledge transfer or mentoring
Operational and commercial understanding of vessel tracking technologies and the competitive market
A post-graduate degree (Master) qualification
Other software / program knowledge in programming and data visualisation
Previous experience working for a global company
