Markets Analyst – Lloyd’s List

Role Profile

The Markets Analyst – Lloyd’s List role is a new position within the Lloyd’s List editorial team, tasked with developing Lloyd’s List’s analytical capabilities and content for the tanker, dry cargo, and gas segments.          

 

The role will be vital in helping set the agenda of Lloyd’s List’s coverage of international shipping markets through daily news, features and analysis.

 

The Markets Analyst will work closely with the Markets Editor in creating and developing data-led analysis of companies and markets to the high standards of Lloyd’s List’s editorial guidelines.

 

The role requires someone who will also help raise the profile of our wider maritime business through external representation at events and presentations.  

 

This is a permanent role which reports to the Markets Editor – Lloyd’s List. This role is based on a balanced working model between home and our central London office located close to St Paul’s, Blackfriars, and Farrington.

                                                                                         

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating original analysis-led articles on commodities shipping.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with industry stakeholders including shipbrokers, shipowners and commodities-related businesses.

  • Writing news and markets analysis that provides a consistently reliable and authoritative view of short and long-term market trends that helps readers’ business decision-making.

  • Developing and executing data sets on vessel fleets and freight rates utilising both in-house and third-party sources, for inclusion in articles.   

  • Providing subject-matter expertise as required by the business.

  • Participating in events as required, in either a presenter or moderator role.


What we are looking for:

Essential

  • At least 5 years’ experience in reporting or analysis for the shipping markets

  • A broad understanding of the commodity shipping markets.

  • Proven knowledge and understanding of current/future trade dynamics.

  • Self-motivation and initiative to drive projects and meet tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Advanced communication skills to engage with both colleagues and industry C-suite executives.

  • An existing, broad network of industry contacts.


Desirable

  • Experience in the shipbroking research and/or consulting sectors.

  • Previous reporting or analysis experience in the dry cargo, tanker or gas segments

  • A relevant shipping-related qualification.
